However, most instruments are still designed for older types of mouthpieces, which can lead to intonation imbalances. One of the most effective ways to compensate for these differences is with a properly designed and precisely manufactured mouthpiece. <strong>clarinet barrel<\/strong>.<\/p><p><strong>Why is the keg so important?<\/strong><\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">The barrel is the first link between the mouthpiece and the body of the clarinet. It transmits the vibration of the reed to the entire instrument and also significantly affects:<\/p><ul><li style=\"list-style-type: none;\"><ul><li><strong>intonation throughout the range<\/strong>,<\/li><li><strong>tone color<\/strong>,<\/li><li><strong>response and articulation<\/strong>,<\/li><li><strong>the overall feel of the instrument&#039;s resistance<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">A very common misconception is that the pitch is determined only by the length of the barrel. In fact, it is the length of the barrel that determines the pitch. <strong>total internal volume<\/strong>, a combination of length and bore. This is why two barrels of the same length can have completely different intonation properties.<\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">A properly designed barrel can stabilize the instrument, balance out problematic tones, and adapt the clarinet to modern mouthpieces and the individual needs of the player.<\/p><p><strong>Diagnostics and testing<\/strong><\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">I have several test sets of barrels in different lengths and bore types available in the workshop. This allows me to determine exactly what shape and volume will work best:<\/p><ul><li style=\"list-style-type: none;\"><ul><li>a specific clarinet model,<\/li><li>used nozzle,<\/li><li>the individual player&#039;s style of play.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">During diagnosis I look for:<\/p><ul><li style=\"list-style-type: none;\"><ul><li>intonation tendencies in individual registers,<\/li><li>tone stability,<\/li><li>resistance and feel when playing,<\/li><li>echo and articulation.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">For faster orientation, you can fill in <strong>intonation table<\/strong>, which will help to more precisely target the necessary adjustments and speed up the entire process.<\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>Materials and their character<\/strong><\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">The basic material is <strong>grenadill (Dalbergia melanoxylon)<\/strong>, which provides:<\/p><ul><li style=\"list-style-type: none;\"><ul><li>sonorous, carrying tone,<\/li><li>easy articulation,<\/li><li>reliable response,<\/li><li>universal use for chamber, orchestral and solo playing.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Upon request, I also make barrels from other types of wood:<\/p><table><thead><tr><td><p><strong>Material<\/strong><\/p><\/td><td><p><strong>Density<\/strong><\/p><\/td><td><p><strong>Character<\/strong><\/p><\/td><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td><p>African blackwood - Grenadill<\/p><\/td><td><p>1270 kg\/m\u00b3<\/p><\/td><td><p>traditional, stable, sound<\/p><\/td><\/tr><tr><td><p>Ebony<\/p><\/td><td><p>1030\u20131050 kg\/m\u00b3<\/p><\/td><td><p>lighter, warmer color<\/p><\/td><\/tr><tr><td><p>Mopane<\/p><\/td><td><p>1075\u20131300 kg\/m\u00b3<\/p><\/td><td><p>warm, full tone, often a bit &quot;softer&quot; than grenadilla<\/p><\/td><\/tr><tr><td><p>Cocobolo<\/p><\/td><td><p>990\u20131250 kg\/m\u00b3<\/p><\/td><td><p>colorful, rich tone<\/p><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><p><strong>Rings and special modifications<\/strong><\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">On request it is possible to install:<\/p><ul><li style=\"list-style-type: none;\"><ul><li>gold-plated rings,<\/li><li>silver-plated rings,<\/li><li>nickel-plated rings,<\/li><li><strong>carbon rings<\/strong> (novelty),<\/li><li>Cryo treatment of metal parts.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">These elements can affect not only the appearance but also the stability of the keg.<\/p><p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>Custom-made barrel manufacturing \u2013 procedure<\/strong><\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">In order to make a keg accurately, you must have with you:<\/p><ul><li style=\"list-style-type: none;\"><ul><li><strong>nozzle<\/strong>,<\/li><li><strong>clarinet<\/strong>, for which the barrel will be intended.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">The model lines of the tools change over the years and it is necessary for the barrel to fit perfectly on the top pin without any unwanted play. This material has approximately a quarter less density than grenadilla (975Kg\/m3), and is therefore more sensitive to humidity and dimensional changes. To prevent the barrel from cracking at its weakest point, there are installed under the imitation ivory <strong>carbon reinforcements<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ef4d509 elementor-widget elementor-widget-gallery\" data-id=\"ef4d509\"
